Description
Just as another blue opal I have listed, this Owyhee Blue Opal Rectangle Cabochon is beautifully distinct. Common Opal is normally opaque with the color range including white, blue, pink, yellow/orange, brown or black. However, the name of this type of opal originates from the Owyhee region in Oregon and Idaho as well as from around the Virgin Valley of Nevada. Blue opals from this area can be sold for $3 to $9 per carat given their quality, size, and coloring.
This individual blue opal is also one of my ‘Package’ wire wraps. It measures 7/8″ X 1/2″ and is 16.15 carats. The similarities to the other Owyhee opal that’s listed are the colors, shape, and the region it comes from. However, the pattern of the actual gemstone colors is uniquely distinctive and both sides are so pretty you can even wear it reversed! I’ve wrapped this opal in golden swirls with blue glass beads. Once again, the wire represents the ‘ribbon’ and the blue glass beads represent the ‘bow’. This opal pendant hangs neatly from a black leather-like cord with coordinating golden lobster clasp and chain.
